Generational farm distilling a new legacy

Township 23 Distillery

Nelson, Wisconsin

Township 23 is the kind of place locals bring visitors when they want to show off something truly unique about this stretch of the river. Opened in 2022, it’s an actual farm distillery, set among scenic views that instantly encourage you to slow down and settle in.

What sets it apart is the real field-to-flask experience. Unlike most distilleries, Township 23 grows all of its own grain right outside the windows on their family farm, Village Edge Farms—sustaining a legacy while crafting small-batch spirits with intention. Every bottle and cocktail has a story behind it, and you can feel that care in every sip.

If you’re not sure what to order, just tell the bartenders what you like—sweet, sour, refreshing—and they’ll guide you to something you’ll love. The menu changes seasonally, so even regulars find something new each visit, though the Chocolate Espresso Martini has earned its reputation as a standout favorite.

Part distillery, part cocktail room, part gathering place, Township 23 is where great drinks, good company, and a sense of fun naturally come together—one of those spots that feels special without trying too hard.

We decided to try the Catch me Martini and a Classic Moscow Mule. We really enjoyed these drinks! Our second order, we had the Chocolate Espresso Martini and the Bees Knees. Again delicious. The view of the sunset was beautiful and peaceful!

Had some great festive cocktails made with their blackberry gin. Cool ambience. I definitely will come back.

We hosted our rehearsal dinner at Township 23 Distillery and had such a wonderful experience! The owner was fantastic to work with—so kind and accommodating—and even surprised us with a bottle of their vodka as a gift.
